Let The People Decide – Birkenstock

September 26, 2016

Alexa Chung, Kourtney Kardashian, Jessica Alba, Miranda Kerr, Drew Barrymore, an Olsen sister. What do all these celebs have in common? Birkenstock shoes. They go mad for them.

Sometimes in life, I make great decisions. Sometimes I make decisions that aren’t great, but I can live with them. Some decisions I’ve made can only be described as “what the f$ck were you (not) thinking”.

For me fashion falls into the latter category. The sense of relief I’ve felt when I’ve started a job to find that I can wear a uniform everyday….is sheer relief.

I’m not good at knowing what is in fashion, let alone what suits me or looks most flattering for me. Recently, I found myself discussing why I needed “trackie shorts” for summer. I am denim jeans and a black t-shirt type person. Some see this as lazy, I see it as confident-rock-chick-universally-cool-black-is-slimming-looks-good-on-everyone-effortless-chic. Hashtag that!

For my next fashion decision, I have decided to put it out to the masses. I am asking for your help. You see, whenever I ask my sister (A) on her opinion on getting a pair of Birkenstocks. Her answer is pretty straight forward. I get this look:

Yes - I googled "People Who Look Like They're Shitting Themselves" to get this image.

Yes – I googled “People Who Look Like They’re Shitting Themselves” to get this image.

I have also found myself pondering a potential new (cough *ahem*) fashion purchase and I thought how can I find out whether I should purchase or whether I am smoking crack and drinking the bong water of the “fashion” world. And before you say – only lesbians wear Birkenstocks: Firstly, there are plenty of non lesbians that wear them too. Secondly, I am 37, single and have short hair – I’ve been called a lesbian before believe it or not. Thirdly, there is nothing wrong with being a lesbian – what you do in your own time is your business (it may not be my deal but if it’s yours good for you).

The decision is this:

Can I pull off wearing a pair of birkenstocks?

The pair I am looking at:

birkenstock

The argument for (otherwise known as ‘What I think I’ll look like”):

birk1

The argument against (Otherwise known as ‘What I’ll actually look like”):

birk22

Please help me make this very important first work problem life changing decision.
